We began this ministry of providing meals for the homeless in our community in April of 2024. Our partnership with the Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless continues to help meet the needs of people in need. Volunteers meet in the church kitchen at least twice a month to pack the food in to-go containers. They prepare the meals and provide food needed for the plates. Each meal consists of a main course, side, fruit, dessert and drink. We have faithful members who supply fruit cups, pudding cups, to-go plates, drinks, cutlery, and other items used in preparing the plates. All plates are delivered with a scripture or encouraging word sticker on the plate and a “We would love to have you visit” First Baptist Church sticker. This is more about filling bellies with food; it's about filling souls with the Holy Spirit!
We play BINGO on Wednesdays! The clients enjoy playing and winning prizes such as cookies, snacks, socks, flip flops, nail grooming items, lotion, raincoats, flashlights, candy and sometimes, DQ gift cards. It’s a wonderful time of fellowship with people who just need to feel love and care. I would encourage you to watch the video of Jeff Foxworthy below. This brief video sheds a whole new light on homelessness. It is amazing how great our God is!
If you would like to help with this ministry by providing funds or helping with meals, please see Lisa Durrence or Tommy Hatcher.
